Destination: Perth, Chapter 8: The Fraternity Pack
While the sounds of throwing up made by Hui were barely audible from upstairs, the Men could tell that something was up. “That sounds like Hui, and it sounds as if she’s throwing up..Josh, do you have anything to do with that?”, Edward gave a huge grin as he interrogated Joshua. “Ed’s right, don’t women only throw up when they’re either pregnant or Bulimic, the latter being impossible due to Hui’s eagerness for food.”, replied Jordan, who was getting more and more curious by the second.
“For God’s sake guys, although I may have always been the one with the most dirty jokes, I seriously consider the facts to my upcoming wedding..and NO it is not going a SHOTGUN WEDDING” declared Joshua, who was 1 second away from turning into Chernobyl #2. “Furthermore, Hui also has a say in this, and I doubt she’d want to be the one that suddenly throws up in the middle of our vows”, he continued. “Okay! Enough about the anxiousness for Hui, lets tell Axel about how we got together from the very beginning.” Proclaimed Jordan, who seemed to remember how it all began…
“If I could remember, Your Dad, Uncle Nathan and I were friends back in the primary school days and it was in Year 8 when we met Uncle Josh and Uncle Ryah, and then in Year 10, we met Uncle Edward virtually and he then introduced Uncle Danish to us.” ,said Jordan, who spoke in a single breath and continued shortly after, but not before slugging a glass of hard Liquor. “What about the Aunts?” Axel asked curiously. “Well, Aunt May was with us in primary school, Aunt Hui and Aunt Mannie were like family friends and their mother’s were previously best friends or something like that. As for Aunt Melissa, Aunt May introduced her to us in Year 8, when they were the only 2 girls out of a 27 student computing class.”
As we were listening on, we could see little Axel trying to piece up the facts one by one in his mind and then suddenly something struck him, “What about my Mom? How did you guys meet her? Was it also in the Secondary Years?” The questions caught Jordan dumbfounded as he could not remember that part, he tried to think but was in vain. He was shortly saved by Allan’s memory for that part. “You see Axel, your mother wasn’t in Perth until we were in Year 9. It was in that year when I had my eyes on a little girl who would later grow up to become my wife and also, your mother.” Following the words of his father, an amazed Axel had to continue asking on, with his next question the one that made everyone spill their liquor on the carpet rug that once was a favourite of Hui’s father. “So how did you and Mommy make me?” All of us decided not to answer this particular question and concluded that it was best to let the girls answer that for him.

Destination: Perth, Chapter 7: The sorority circle
“Okay the children are all asleep. Do you know how difficult children are?” Melissa complained. With her eyes half-clossed, she dropped into the bean bag. Mannie slowly crept up and started massaging Melissa. She knew she deserved this. Hui and May suddenly jumped on the bean bag and started tickling Melissa. Laughter flooded the air which influenced both Rejinette and Allison to smile. Both of them sat under the window beside each other.
“OI MAY MARIE SHARP! YOU HAVE TWINS INSIDE YOU! HELLO. STOP IT WOMAN” Melissa said cautiously.
May placed her palm on her face. “Why is childbearing so unbearable?”
Melissa soon gathered the ladies into a circle. She inspected the children once more if they were in deep slumber because she did not want to scare them with what she was about to share. Melissa soon sat down on the blue rug.
“Are we playing the Ouija board?” Allison said in her thick American accent.
“No honey, I’m going to tell Mannie, Hui and May how disgusting child birth is. You will back me up, yes mummies Allison and Rejinette?” Melissa confidently said. She was the mother of four after all.
“I don’t like this. Please take me away!” Hui whined.

I was at King Edward Memorial Hospital. This was my third child, Sora Rin Ngo. I had delivered two other babies, you might say I’m experienced but it still hurts. I couldn’t let go of Jimmy’s hands. He gives me the security that I’m not going through this alone.
I must admit, being pushed while lying down to the operation theatre is fun. What’s going to happen later on, might be one of life’s greatest moments. I do miss my Riho and Misaki, I wonder are they all right? Okay, my tummy is huge now. I know this baby is a girl. I hope she’s going to be as pretty as me.
Uhm Doctor, I don’t like needles so much. Stop poking me with them. I find it weird that a Gynaecologist is looking at my vagina. The doctor is a lady, thankfully. How weird would it be if it were a guy? Would Jimmy be jealous? Perhaps.
OMG NURSES STOP TOUCHING MY VAGINA. IT’S NOT A TOY.
I hate this part. Yes the pushing part. Jimmy always laughs at how flustered my face looks. OMG! THE DOCTOR HAS TO STOP ASKING ME TO PUSH. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO BESIDES PUSH? PULL? HELLOOOOOOOOO
Why is there a puddle of blood on the floor? This is like menses times ten. I should tell this to Hui, she’ll freak out. Hehe. Ooops, I forgot, the baby isn’t fully out yet. Okay deep breathes. Oh shit, I’m hurting Jimmy’s hands. Sorry dear.
Okay I think the baby is stuck. SHIT NOOOOOOOOOO. THEY ARE GOING TO CUT MY VAGINA. OMG. OUCH OUCH. OKAY. ONE LAST PUSH!!!!!
Okay I’m tired. The only thing I see coming out of my vagina is an umbilical cord. Oh plus, my vagina looks like a dead animal vomiting blood. Ew.

After the recount, Hui was in the toilet. She was vomiting into the toilet bowl. The ladies soon laughed and went into the toilet to comfort her. “I am not having a baby and it’s all because of you, Mrs Ngo” Hui whined. -

Destination: Perth, Chapter 6: The Pillow Barricade
The ladies were handing out fruit bottle juices to the queue that formed near the counter of the kitchen. Everyone just lay on any furniture they could rest their tiresome body on. Most of the children feel into deep slumber because of their low resistance to arduous sports.
“May you fat ass! Stop hogging the toilet” Mannie shouted.
“I’m pregnant and I think that is a valid reason to take a long shower” May rebutted.
Mannie slowly came down the steps and realised there was a feud. She was shocked at how short the silence was. Well, it was never silent in FMC. She was still figuring out what had just happened. The guys were on one side. They looked like they were on the losing end. She couldn’t help to see Nathan. He was never a fighter, only a fighter for love, which made Mannie blush a little. As always, the girls dominated. ‘Go girl power!’ she whispered to herself.
“You could have passed the ball to the kids!” Hui shouted
“This is childish. Can we not scream? You’re scaring the kids” Danish replied
“Dan, you can’t even play soccer. Kids have to feel like they are a part of us” Melissa remarked
“But Axel did goal, hey that’s something” Allan kept the men’s side strong
“You guys never learn to back down. Come on ladies, bring your children, we’ll be sleeping upstairs” Allison shouted back.
While climbing up the stairs, Mannie was in dismay, she wanted to hug Nathan but Hui snapped her fingers towards her and brought her up to the 2nd level. Soon, the children and mothers used the pillows to create a barricade at the top of the stairs, to prevent anyone else from getting up to the top level.
There was silence on the lower deck. No one wanted to blame each other anymore. Suddenly, the door opened. Little Axel suddenly came into the door from the field. Apparently, everyone had forgotten about him. Allan carried him up and cuddled him. He then dropped him on the soft and bouncy sofa. He bounced into mid-air for a second and Allan grabbed him.
“Dude! Rejinette doesn’t allow you to do that!” said Ryah.
“That’s why I decided to do it now, if not, never” Allan replied. All of the guys soon laughed together.
The guys soon ditched the fruit bottles and took some vodka from Edward’s secret bag. They wanted to take full advantage of the absence of the blabbering ladies. But before they could chug down the hard liquor, a tiny voice spoke up.
“Uncles, what brought you guys together?” Little Axel curiously asked. -

Destination: Perth, Chapter 5: Axel’s goal
A remarkable music piece flowed into Danish’s ears, the most peaceful way he woke up. He found himself in the backyard of the Blue house. He seemed to have slept on the grass patch. But he wasn’t alone, in his arms, tucked away in deep slumber, Riho. She was still fast asleep and Danish didn’t want to wake this princess up. He felt the morning winds blowing his goatee. ‘Darn, forgot to shave again’ he said as he carried Riho in his arms proceeding into the house. Not recalling why he slept outside.
After the door opened, he could see a kindergarten. All 8 children were dancing and singing along while a beautiful pianist played flawlessly. Melissa effortlessly played her favourite piece. She turned to Danish when he entered holding her daughter, she gave him a welcoming smile. There were people in the kitchen trying to cook breakfast.
”No no that’s not how you cook an egg, Hui! Gosh you’re getting married!” Mannie nagged at her. May tried baking but failed as well. “Melissa I need you to help me bake this!” May asked desperately for Melissa. Melissa departed from the piano as Allison took her place. Joshua descended from the stairs. “Okay, which idiot can’t cook a bloody egg? Must be you Jordan” Joshua said, still half asleep. Jordan appeared from Joshua’s back and pushed him down the steps. He fell like a puppet.
“Emmanuel you ass, it’s your fiancee” Hui scolded Joshua ferociously. ‘Fuck’ Joshua whispered, preparing himself for a pillow fight.
Danish went upstairs to place this little elf on the bed. He entered Edward’s room where he was holding a soccer ball, staring at the enormously large field behind the blue house. Danish questioned about last night.
”Remember how sad you were when you found that Dawn was pregnant? After we got back from King’s Park, you, Jordan and Joshua slept on the sofa downstairs. Tears kept coming down from your eyes, it never seemed to stopped. You then went outside to stare at the full moon, Riho came along to accompany you. She said ‘don’t cry’” Edward explained.
Edward and Danish came down the stairs greeted by the delightful muffins, waffles and eggs the ladies cooked. After a scrumptious breakfast, Edward brought down the soccer ball. “Noooooooooooooooooooo!” May shouted. Everyone was laughing so hard because May enjoyed playing soccer but she had triplets in her. After a few minutes, everyone marched out of the blue house in boots and shorts.
Since May couldn’t play, she became the queen and started assigning people to their various teams. Hui, Pique, Nathan, Allan, Jimmy, Allison and Jordan’s fiancee were on one team, all wearing red. Danish, Joshua, Mannie, Rejinette, Ryah, Jordan and Edward were on the other team wearing blue.
”So the couples aren’t in the same team? Why?” Joshua asked May.
”So I can whoop your ass” Hui grimaced.
”Can we play aunt May?” Matsuni, Serenity and Axel asked. May nodded. Serenity joined her dad’s team while Axel and Matsuni went to the other team. With the blow of the shrieking whistle, the game started.
The red team had selected Pique to be their goalkeeper, on the opposing side, Joshua. The game was intense. Both teams had supreme teamwork.
Matsuni passed the ball to Jimmy as he dashed past Mannie. Coming closer to Joshua, he wanted to pass the ball but Ryah managed to tackle him, the ball flew into the sun and finally falling right in front of Serenity. “What do I do daddy?” Edward asked her to pass to him but Serenity said “But I love mummy too” as she passed the ball to Allison, who was on the opposing team. As elegant as possible, she dribble the ball with gracefulness as she gave a hard kick on the ball, which entered the net.
Joshua kicked the ball into the sky. The ball came to Danish. He tried to dribble it, passed the middle line but somehow tripped on a rock. The ball attracted Hui and Rejinette as both ladies ran to get it. Hui, being more skillful did some amazing footwork leaving the ball in the air and catching it, sprinting towards Joshua. Everyone on the blue team was left dumbfounded. “Go Hui!” May cheered. Ryah tried to tackle her but the ball was passed to Allison. “Come on girl!” Allison said as she passed the ball back to Hui, fueled with the desire to beat Joshua. No one was left to defend. It was Hui versus Joshua now. “Have mercy baby” Joshua pleaded, but Hui ignored as she scored on the right side.
“Okay blue team, we have to do this. Everyone, attack now!” as Joshua passed the ball to Jordan. He kept on passing it to Edward. This cycle repeated five times as they slowly broke the red team’s defense. Neither Nathan nor Allan could retrieve the ball. Pique, Jordan’s fiancee and Matsuni were left on the red team. Matsuni could never catch up with Edward’s speed as he passed the ball to Jordan once more. “GIVE ME THE BALL OR I WILL NEVER COOK FOR YOU” Jordan’s fiancee threatened. Jordan, being a coward, slowly passed the ball to his fiancee. “You idiot!” Danish came dashing to get the ball. He swerved in. It was such a bad angle that he slid on the hard grass, the one he slept on, but he managed to kick the ball into the net. “puta de mierda” Pique cursed in Spanish.
The score was 2 for the red team, 1 for the blue team. Pique, enraged with revenge threw the ball up high. Jordan and Allan tried to get the ball but bumped with each other. Nathan got the ball as he passed to Allison, but was tackled by Edward. “Sorry!” Edward regretted. His leg soon hit Jimmy’s stomach as both fell on the floor. There wasn’t anyone left to defend, neither were there anyone to attack, but there arise a hero. Little Axel, only 5 years old slowly ran to get the ball. No one could stop this fierce warrior. When he got close to the goal post, he said “Uncle Josh! Aunt Hui wanted to tell you something” Joshua let down his defenses as he came closer to the little boy. Axel cunningly scored the goal right between Joshua’s legs.
Everyone carried little Axel. This was his moment of glory. “I could have scored 5 goals” May said to Pique. -
Destination Perth: Chapter 4, The DNA tower
”Daddy’s home!” Misaki shouted. The men marched down the bus one by one. “Bad Ass” May whispered to Mannie. The indigo skies had replaced the bright sun. It was around 8pm when the children were woken up by hunger. The guys apologised to Danish while the mothers donned their evening gown. Jimmy dashed to get his DSLR camera, he knew that tonight was a very special night. By 8.30pm, they had departed to King’s Park.
The Singaporeans had never been to King’s Park. “Truly breathtaking” Danish was astonished. There were large grass fields that were inhabited by a myriad of insects. Butterflies, moths and dragonflies roamed the land. There were even squirrels climbing up trees. The whole park was clean and it smelled lovely. The scent of every glorious flower could be picked up by everyone’s nose.
The whole group walked to a small restaurant situated beside a wide pond. The restaurant sold seafood. Lobsters, crabs and fishes were like paintings in a museum that the children were fascinated by.
“Confession, I don’t eat seafood” Edward announced shyly. Allison opened up her basket. It had sandwiches in it. “Bacon?” he asked. Allison nodded as her fringe came down her eyes.
Pique made his presence felt in the group. He came up with the funniest jokes known to FMC. It was so funny that Mannie choked on something. Nathan pushed over the chairs as he hoisted Mannie pressing hard on her stomach. Everyone was worried until Yuki said “Aww, auntie Mannie and uncle Nathan are hugging each other” The whole restaurant burst out in laughter. A shrimp emerged from Mannie’s large mouth and directly hit Jordan’s forehead. Jordan gave a skeptical look at Mannie. His fiancee took a napkin and rubbed his forehead. Her arms surrounded Jordan’s neck as if he was a baby. “Are you okay my hunny bunny?” She asked as Jordan’s face was filled with embarrassment. Hui and may started chuckling.
After that eventful dinner, Joshua led the whole group up the DNA Tower. It was about 4 levels high. He held Hui’s hand as his heart beat at an extremely fast pace. He turned to Jimmy. Jimmy gave a thumbs up as he turned on the camera.
At the top, Danish experienced the most magnificent view. He could see the entire city. He even spotted the Blue House from there. The winds were calm, as if preparing for an important event. The moon decided to reveal its entire body, ready for picture-taking. It was silent up there, the only noises they could hear were crickets. Everyone cornered the circular tower leaving Hui and Joshua in the middle.
”Hold up, what…. what’s happening?” Hui asked as all 22 eyes darted on the couple. Flashes came from Jimmy’s camera. Joshua had bent down on one knee. He looked into Hui’s beautiful eyes. Her face was soft. Her eyes glistered in the night. She kept her hair long and silky. Hui was still petite after all these years no matter how much Maggie Mee she consumed. She was even approached by a modelling agency.
”Hui, I have loved you for 15 years. I have seen you grow into a beautiful lady. As I look into your eyes, I remember how we first met back in school. You are the most important person in my life, besides my parents, anyway, you have taught me a lot of things, care, kindness, honesty and maybe a little fashion tips but you…. Gosh I just want to grow old with you. I wanna make cute little babies with those adorable hips. I could never imagine leading my life with anyone but you. I want to wake up in the morning next to you for the rest of my life, plus I really want to buy a Queen sized bed” Joshua said in the most sincere tone. He gave a long pause as he looked into her eyes once more. He could see a tear in her right eye, about to come down.
”Will you marry me?” Joshua asked. Hui nodded thrice, as her tears of joy came down her soft cheeks. She was so happy that she couldn’t say a word. She gave her finger to Joshua as he slid the diamond ring into her tiny thin finger. Joshua carried her by her hips and kissed her in mid air. Joshua started to spin around while Hui’s legs were still in the air. This was the moment he was waiting for in his entire life and surprisingly, he nailed it. Everyone else cheered and clapped. Jimmy snapped the last photo of the couple with the moon in sight. Joshua was carrying Hui’s light body in his arms.
“Best night ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Hui screamed. -
Destination Perth, Chapter 3: The blue house
Ryah carefully drove the horde to Hui’s old house. It was used as a house for tenants, but since no one was renting the house, it was FMC’s sanctuary. The blue house had 2 levels. As the house was located on the opposite of a church, Serenity felt safe. There were also students in uniform walking out of a private school, Hui recalled gawping at a few attractive boys when she was 14.
Danish helped to carry all the children from the bus. He took Riho’s body and placed it on his right shoulder. It seemed like he had a pet parrot. Riho threw her hands up high as she pretended she was in an airplane. Jimmy quickly took a photo of this. The owner of the house unlocked the green gates, but somehow couldn’t manage to push the gates. “Let me, honey” Joshua offered, as he gave an almighty kick at the gate.
The Blue house had two levels with small windows. The garden had some lavenders growing in it with a blue butterfly that had caught Tiffany’s attention. The porch had a hanging chair where Long used to play.
“Okay people, your personal tour guide is here” Hui announced. The little children formed a single file and Hui was their leader.
“We used to have a single level but then, Dad’s renting business had expanded so he decided to add another tier to the cake. As you can see, the living room has 3 sofas. I know the kitchen is connected to the living room, but it’s great. You get a lot of customers. Anyway, there are 4 rooms here. Come on up!” the tour guide said
The second floor had a giant window which let in the most ferocious winds. Hui’s hair was in a mess but the children giggled. There were also 3 rooms upstairs. Hui carefully assigned each couple to their specific rooms. Mannie & Nathan, Allan & Rejinette, May & Pique and Hui shared a room with Jordan’s fiancee and they took the 4 rooms on the first level. Ryah and his daughter, Melissa & Jimmy and Edward & Allison’s family took all the other 3 rooms on the second level.
“So where does that leave me, Jordan and Joshua?” Danish asked. Hui pointed at the living room. “Could have been worse” Joshua admitted while Jordan just gave him a shrug, knowing that nothing could be changed. It was 6pm in the evening and all of the children had taken a nap, along with their mothers.
”Hey, I need to refuel the gas for the bus, any of you guys wanna accompany me?” Ryah asked. All of the guys left the house except one. They had left Danish behind as he was still in the shower singing ‘All by myself…. Don’t wanna be, all by myyyyyyyself’
The moment Danish left the toilet, he was curious as to where his male species were. After Hui explained, Danish went upstairs to look at the large window. He looked into the vast field. The grass was dancing. There were dragonflies circling the grass fields. It seemed like a party. Danish felt alone. No wife, no fiancee and no children, he felt like an outcast. No doubt he was still in love with the same girl he had a crush on when he was 15. He checked Dawn’s twitter account. Dawn had made an announcement. She was pregnant.
“Fuck this shit” as he threw his iPad down the stairs to the first level. His heart had shattered even more. Tears came running down his cheeks faster than Usain Bolt could ever sprint. His limbs went weak as he curled up like a baby. The powerful winds slapped his face as if he didn’t already tasted defeat.
Melissa saw the fallen iPad and she instantly knew what was wrong. The screen of the iPad had been broken like Danish’s heart. The lady came up the steps gracefully while her blue dress danced with the wind. Despite having 4 children, she still had a sexy curve. Her skin was a little tan, but her face radiated sunshine and happiness. Her black hair was straight but also curled around her ears. Jimmy was indeed a lucky man.
Melissa coiled her arms around Danish. Danish opened his red eyes that had tsunamis of water. “Don’t worry” Melissa said in the most tranquil voice. It was so soothing that Danish felt relieved. “What’s wrong with me? What don’t I have that he has?” Danish asked rhetorically. Soon, all of the mothers came up the steps and each gave Danish a massive hug. Danish had never felt so much love and care. All of them sat with their backs on the wall as they felt the wind. It was at its most calmest.
”You know, it’s crazy, but we’ve been comforting each other for over 16 years, Danish” Melissa said as Danish replied with a smirk. He was still hurt inside.
At the petrol kiosk, the musk of all the men was strong. The petrol kiosk was in the middle of nowhere where plain fields ruled the area. Joshua, Jordan, Allan, Edward, Ryah, Jimmy, Pique and Nathan were in the bus. As Ryah walked back to his driver’s seat, he was startled when Joshua made an announcement that would change his life. He kept silent as all of the eyes darted at a small object in his pocket that he was pulling out.
It was a diamond ring. -
Destination: Perth, Chapter 2: Allan’s Big Fat Cheese
After a lot of hugging at the airport, they made their way to their transportation, a bus! Ryah had rented a bus so that all 24 of them could spend the entire journey together. Danish, again with his pessimistic ideas, thought that this was a bad idea.
”All aboard!” Ryah announced! “Aye aye, bus captain!” Serenity shouted from the back of the bus.
The back of the bus was filled with noisy children that played in harmony. Serenity Yap, Matsuni Wright, Tiffany Nguyen, Anna Nguyen, Axel Tran, Misaki Ngo, Yuki Ngo, Sora Rin Ngo and Riho Ngo. Serenity and Matsuni were the oldest at 6 years old, the youngest being Yuki at a year old. Axel sat quietly, before moving to the front to look for his parents, possibly due to the fact that he was the only boy at the back. The four Ngos had sat closely to each other, protecting little Yuki from Ryah’s atrocious driving.
“Seriously guys? Why am I seated all the way at the back? You know how much I dislike children.” Danish whined. Joshua, Edward, Jordan and Allan had somehow managed to shoved him all the way at the back. May looked at poor Danish, gives him a thumbs up and then tries her best to settle back down without stressing her pregnant belly.
Apparently, Hui’s birthday party started in the very bus itself. Confetti on the floor, glitter on Hui’s dark black hair, Jordan falling on to the floor, making Ryah lose focus driving. The bus had swerved from left to right,making Mannie faint on Nathan’s laps, who took the opportunity to comb her maroon hair. Serenity taught Anna and Sora Rin how to walk down the runway in the little aisle of the bus. Rejinette started dancing around the aisle holding Matsuni’s white little arms. Laughter was spilling out of the bus. The other drivers nearby were seen as traumatized by May, who was trying to dance with a baby in her womb.
The bus made an emergency brake as soon as they saw the signboard of “Allan’s Big Fat Cheese”, an Italian restaurant which Allan owned. Jordan slammed right at the driver’s window. Ryah took this opportunity to prod poor Jordan. Jordan’s fiancée laughed her lungs out so hard, she started slapping the floor.
”Hurry up May! You prego!” Hui jokingly insulted May as she blocked the entire door. “I am so going to get you when you’re pregnant, Hui!” May replied.
The ambiance of Allan’s Big Fat Cheese was tranquil until Joshua filled the silent room with horny jokes which all ended immediately after Hui had given him a sharp slap on the shoulder while screaming; “There are children around, you idiot!”.
Knowing that Allan and Rejinette could never serve all 24 stomachs, help came under way. Well to be precise, 24 heads ruled the kitchen. Hui’s 30th birthday party resumed. Jordan climbed on the tables with a sack of flour in his hands. The next moment, Perth snowed. Danish took a whole piece of salmon and slapped Edward’s clean face. Nathan used the silverware to create some drum beats.
